A Ghost Story

A Ghost Story

That abandoned house two doors down has always been a bit creepy.  Lights seeming to come on at odd hours... dead birds on the porch... its just odd.  Then, last night as I was walking my dog King for what turned out to be a longer evening walk than usual, I heard the strangest sounds drifting out of the window.

I'd heard the stories of how Joshua McKenzie had found out his wife had a lover, a young man she knew as a child who visited often.

A jealous and angry man, conscious of how much older he was than his young wife, he killed Pelham Christenson in front of his distraught wife.

He then drowned his wife Marjorie in the garden fountain.  Filled with remorse and guilt he took his own life.  It is said his spirit still roams the old bones of this house.

Yes, I knew the stories but curiosity drew me on and I headed towards the dark, empty house.

The air was still and quiet as I approached the old house.  I was amazed as the door appeared to fall open at my touch.

I made my way through to the back room which once must have been a quaint homely kitchen.  As I stood a strange glow caught my eye though the slats in the boarded window.

My body froze as I saw, by the moss covered fountain, the ghost of a beautiful woman weeping.

Slowly I approached.  As I reached out my hand to offer some comfort to the tortured soul she turned and screamed one word "NO!!"

You see, the torment of jealousy carries blindly on in the souls of the dead.
I should have stays away.  Now I will never leave.
